Choose a file
M4A. Maximum 15 minutes per file. 100 MiB on desktop, 50 MiB on touch devices.
Settings
MP3 and M4A use bitrate settings. WAV uses 16-bit PCM, OGG uses quality-based encoding, and FLAC uses lossless compression. Conversion cannot restore lost audio detail.

How to use M4A to MP3 Converter
- Select an M4A file up to 15 minutes long.
- Set the bitrate for the MP3 output.
- Convert locally and download the MP3 copy.
Use an MP3 copy where M4A is unsupported
Some players or submission forms ask for MP3. Converting an M4A file changes its encoded audio into that format. If the source already uses a lossy codec, another lossy encode can reduce quality, so keep the original M4A for future use.
Check what the M4A contains
M4A is a container commonly used with AAC or ALAC audio. The tool can process only codecs supported by its browser engine. Protected or damaged recordings may fail, and selecting a higher MP3 bitrate cannot recover detail absent from the source.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just rename M4A to MP3?
Changing the extension does not convert the audio codec. Use the converter to create an actual MP3 file.
Does converting M4A to MP3 preserve all quality?
MP3 is lossy. AAC sources undergo another lossy encode, and lossless ALAC sources also lose information when encoded to MP3.
Will every M4A file work?
No. Success depends on the codec, whether the file is readable and the resources available on your device. The extension alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Where is my recording converted?
Conversion happens in your browser without uploading the recording. The maximum accepted source duration is 15 minutes.
