How to Download Audio From Instagram, Facebook or X as MP3 or WAV

Every video result on ICANDL now has two audio buttons, MP3 and WAV. This guide shows how to use them and when each format is the right choice.

Updated

Social media apps don't let you save the sound of a video, and most people only need it as an MP3. Some jobs need something else. Video editors, audio workstations and transcription services often prefer WAV, and converting an MP3 yourself means installing an audio editor. ICANDL now gives you both formats straight from the video link.

Download the audio

  1. Copy the link of a public video. On Instagram, Facebook and TikTok it's under Share; on X, tap the share icon and choose Copy link. The guide on copying video links shows each app.
  2. Open icandl.com, paste the link and tap Download.
  3. Pick one of the audio buttons:
    • "Download Audio Only (MP3)"
    • "Download Audio as WAV"

The file goes to Downloads on Android and computers, and to the Files app on iPhone. There are platform pages too, if you prefer them: the Instagram audio downloader, the Facebook audio downloader and the Twitter (X) audio downloader.

MP3 or WAV: which one

MP3 is compressed. A minute of sound takes one to two megabytes, and every phone, car stereo and music app plays it. Pick it for listening, sharing in a chat, or keeping a voice note.

WAV is uncompressed PCM audio. A minute of stereo takes about ten megabytes. Pick it when software asks for it:

  • Video editors and DAWs such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Audacity or FL Studio can cut and process WAV without decoding first.
  • Some transcription and subtitle tools accept only WAV, or give better timing with it.
  • Sample libraries and sound effect folders are often kept in WAV so every file uses the same format.

Does WAV improve the quality?

No. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and X store their audio compressed. ICANDL's WAV holds that same sound without compressing it again, so you avoid one more round of loss when you edit and export. It can't bring back detail the platform already removed. If you only listen, the MP3 sounds the same and saves space.

A short clip instead of the whole track

To keep a few seconds, for example a ringtone, use the ringtone maker. It cuts the part you choose and saves an MP3 or an iPhone M4R.

Limits

  • Only public videos can be read. Private accounts, friends-only posts and private groups don't work.
  • The audio is the video's own soundtrack. If music was muted by the platform, the file is silent too.
  • ICANDL doesn't store files. Music in social videos is usually copyrighted, so keep downloads for personal use unless you have permission.

The older Twitter (X) video to MP3 guide covers X specifically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Paste the link of a public Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or X video into ICANDL and choose "Download Audio as WAV".
Choose MP3 for listening and sharing because the file is small. Choose WAV when an editor, a DAW or a transcription tool asks for uncompressed audio.
Not here. The platforms store compressed audio, so a WAV made from it holds the same sound in a bigger file. It's easier for editing software to work with, not higher fidelity.
About 10 MB per minute of stereo sound, several times the size of the MP3.
