How to Download an Instagram Reel Without Background Music

Most Reels carry a song under the footage. If you want to reuse the clip with your own music or narration, that song gets in the way. There are two cases, and they need different tools: removing all of the sound, and removing only the music.

Remove all sound: one step

When the clip has no talking you need, the simplest result is a silent copy. ICANDL produces it in one step:

  1. Tap Share on the Reel and choose Copy link.
  2. Open download Instagram video without audio.
  3. Paste the link and tap Download.
  4. Choose "Download Video Only".

The file is the same footage as the original post with no audio track. You can drop it into any editor and add your own soundtrack without the old song bleeding through.

Keep the voice, drop the music

Many Reels mix a person talking with a song underneath, and both arrive as one mixed soundtrack. The remove music from video tool splits them for you:

  1. Copy the Reel link and paste it into the remove music tool.
  2. Tap Download, then "Remove Music, Keep Voice".
  3. Wait while the voice is separated. It takes from about 30 seconds to a few minutes.
  4. Tap "Download Video With Voice Only (MP4)", or "Download Voice Only (MP3)" if you only need the words.

The tool runs Demucs, an open-source separation model, on ICANDL's own server. Separation quality depends on the recording. Clear speech over a loud beat separates well. Before you repost

Removing the music doesn't remove the creator's rights to the footage. ICANDL works only with public posts and does not store the files. If you plan to publish the edited clip, get permission from the creator or use footage you own.
