BPM Counter

Tap in time with a song or a rhythm to estimate its tempo in beats per minute. The counter uses your tap intervals and does not require an audio file.

Settings

How to use BPM Counter

  1. Play the music you want to measure.
  2. Tap the beat steadily several times.
  3. Read the estimated BPM and reset before measuring another tempo.

Tap one consistent level of the beat

Choose a pulse and keep following it. Tapping on every beat and tapping on every other beat produce different numbers for the same music. A few steady taps give a more useful estimate than an isolated pair of taps.

Use tap tempo as a listening aid

Your timing affects the result. If a song changes tempo, measure each section separately. A metronome set near the estimate can help you check the pulse, while file-based analysis provides another estimate to compare.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to upload a song?

No. The BPM counter uses the timing of your taps. You can play music in another player or tap a rhythm from memory.

Why does the BPM change while I tap?

The estimate changes as new intervals are measured. Uneven tapping and changes in the beat you follow can move the result.

How do I avoid a half-tempo result?

Decide which beat level you want to count and tap it consistently. If you tapped every other beat, the displayed tempo may be half the beat rate you intended.

Does the 15-minute file limit apply here?

This counter does not accept or analyze files. The 15-minute media limit applies to tools that load audio recordings.
