BPM and Key Finder

Estimate the tempo in beats per minute and the musical key of an audio clip. Choose a supported file up to 15 minutes long and treat the analysis as a starting point for listening.

Choose a file

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, MP4, WEBM. Maximum 15 minutes per file. 100 MiB on desktop, 50 MiB on touch devices.

    Settings

Estimates are calculated from up to the first three minutes. Half or double tempo and ambiguous musical keys are possible. Silence cannot be analysed reliably.

How to use BPM and Key Finder

    1. Choose a supported audio clip up to 15 minutes.
    2. Start the local tempo and key analysis.
    3. Review the estimates and compare them with the recording.

Tempo estimates can follow a different beat level

An analyzer may identify half or double the tempo you would count by ear. Sparse percussion, changing tempo and syncopation can make the pulse ambiguous. Tap along with a representative section to compare the estimate with your intended beat.

A single key may not describe the whole recording

Key detection uses the distribution of musical pitches. Modulation, detuned instruments, percussion-heavy clips and noisy recordings can make the result uncertain. Check the suggested key against the melody or harmony before using it to plan a mix or arrangement.

    Frequently asked questions

Are the BPM and key results exact?

No. They are algorithmic estimates. Confirm them by listening, particularly for recordings with tempo changes or more than one tonal center.

Why does the BPM appear to be half or double?

Some rhythms support more than one plausible pulse. The analyzer may follow a different beat level from the one you count.

Can I analyze any audio format?

The picker accepts the listed formats, but the browser must be able to decode the internal codec. Device memory and source quality also affect analysis.

Is the song uploaded for analysis?

Analysis runs locally in the browser. Each file must be 15 minutes or shorter; the duration cap does not guarantee successful analysis on every device.
