The X app lets you bookmark a post or share its link, but for most people it has no button that saves the video to the phone. Guides online send you to iOS Shortcuts that break after updates, or to App Store apps covered in ads. Safari can do the job on its own.
Copy the post link
In the X app, tap the share icon under the post (the arrow pointing up) and choose Copy link. In a browser, tap the post so it opens on its own and copy the address. Links that start with x.com and older ones that start with twitter.com both work.
If the video sits inside a quoted post, open the quoted post first and copy its link. The link of the post that quotes it may not carry the video.
Download in Safari
- Open Safari and go to the Twitter video downloader.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Tap "Download Video + Audio".
- When Safari asks, tap Download.
Use Safari rather than the browser that opens inside the X app, which doesn't handle downloads well.
If a post holds more than one video, each one appears as its own card with its own buttons.
Move the video to Photos
Safari puts the file in the Files app, not in your camera roll.
- Tap the download arrow in Safari's address bar, or open Files and go to Downloads.
- Tap the video.
- Tap Share, then Save Video.
The video is now in Photos. To skip iCloud uploads for future downloads, go to Settings, Apps, Safari, Downloads and choose On My iPhone.
Sound only
For interviews, speeches or music clips, tap "Download Audio Only" instead. You get an MP3 that plays in the Files app or any audio player. The Twitter (X) downloader page covers MP3 and WAV.
When it doesn't work
Posts from protected accounts can't be read, and a deleted post takes its video with it. If the download fails for another reason, the guide Twitter video downloader not working lists the usual causes.
ICANDL doesn't store the files it processes. Check with the owner before you reuse a video anywhere public.
