Twitter (X) Video Downloader Not Working? Why and How to Fix It
When an X video won't download, the cause is usually the account's privacy, the link you copied, or a post that no longer exists. Work through these checks in order.
Updated
You paste an X link and the downloader returns an error, or it finds nothing at all. The cause is rarely the tool. X posts have privacy settings, they get deleted, and video often lives in a different post than the one you're looking at. These are the checks to run, roughly in order of how often they're the problem.
The account is protected
Protected accounts show a lock icon next to the name. Their posts are only visible to followers the owner approved, and no public downloader can read them, ICANDL included. If you can see the video because you follow the account, you still can't download it this way. Ask the owner for the file.
The post was deleted
When the author deletes a post, its media goes with it. The same happens if X removes the post or suspends the account. Open the link in a browser: if X says the post doesn't exist, there is nothing left to download.
You copied the wrong post
This one catches a lot of people. Two common versions:
- Quoted posts. The video belongs to the post being quoted, not to the post doing the quoting. Tap the quoted post to open it and copy that link.
- Replies and threads. A video in a reply belongs to the reply. Open that reply on its own and copy its link, not the link of the first post in the thread.
Also make sure you copied a post link. A profile link (x.com/username) has no video in it.
The post has no actual video
Images, link previews and some animated posts don't contain a downloadable video. If ICANDL reads the post but shows no video card, check what the post really contains.
The browser blocked the file
If the buttons appear but nothing saves, the browser may have stopped the download. Look for a blocked download notice and allow it. On iPhone, open the downloader in Safari rather than in the X app's built-in browser. Then open the file from Safari's downloads list.
Try again
With a public post and the right link, paste it into the Twitter video downloader and choose "Download Video + Audio". If you only want the sound, the Twitter audio downloader saves it as an MP3.
ICANDL doesn't store the files it processes. Keep downloaded videos for personal use unless the owner agrees to more.
