How to Save Twitter (X) Videos on PC

On x.com you can like, repost and bookmark a video, but saving the file takes a link and one more browser tab. No software or extension needed.

Updated

Right click a video on x.com and you won't find a Save video option. X streams video in small pieces, so the browser has no single file to offer. Desktop programs and browser extensions promise to fix that, but they need installing and often ask for access to every site you visit. A second browser tab does the same job.

Copy the post link

Open the post on its own page by clicking its timestamp (the time or date next to the author's name). The address bar now holds the post link, which looks like x.com/username/status/ followed by a long number. Copy it.

You can also click the share icon under the post and choose Copy link. Old twitter.com links work the same way.

If the video is in a quoted post, open the quoted post and copy that link instead.

Download the video

  1. Open the Twitter video downloader in a new tab.
  2. Paste the link and click Download.
  3. Click "Download Video + Audio".

The MP4 goes to your download folder: Downloads in File Explorer on Windows, or Downloads in Finder on a Mac. It plays in the Windows Media Player app, VLC, QuickTime and any video editor.

Posts with more than one video show a separate card for each, so you can save them one by one.

Audio and silent copies

"Download Audio Only" saves the soundtrack as an MP3, good for interviews and talks you want to listen to or transcribe. "Download Video Only" saves the picture without sound for editing. Both work from the same link. For WAV, see how to convert a Twitter video to MP3 or WAV.

Bookmarks are not downloads

Bookmarking a post keeps it in a list inside X. If the author deletes the post or protects their account, the bookmark stops playing. A downloaded file stays on your computer.

If the download fails

Protected accounts and deleted posts can't be read. If the buttons show up but nothing saves, check your browser for a blocked download. The guide Twitter video downloader not working covers the other causes.

ICANDL doesn't store the files it processes. Videos belong to whoever posted them, so ask before you publish one elsewhere.
